Question by Ken: When is the best time to lock in mortgage rate? I am approved for a "refinance" mortgage....I have commitment letters in hand.....I now have 60 days to lock in the rate.....For the past 30 days, the 15 yr rate has been 3.75% at my bank......Today it jumped to 4%, possibly from the Korean conflict going on, not sure just guessing........I have the rate chart loaded onto my desktop so I can monitor it in real time, just waiting for Monday morning.....Is it normal for rates to drop on a Monday morning, or more likely Friday ??? Any useful information would be appreciated....I am more than happy to lock in at 3.75%, and not looking to wait it out, but just curious as to any signs to watch out for...All of our previous paperwork has been estimated at 3.75%, and we really want this rate.....Thanks Best answer for When is the best time to lock in mortgage rate?:

I'd do it as soon as you can. The rates do vary, but there is no definate pattern and no sign that will warn you in advance of a rise or fall. Lock it in for as long a period as you can, interest rates are set to go up and probably quite sharply - the unknown is when.
